The new Shallow draft keels for the DF95 are working very well, so we shall be commencing our Autumn series for club members on the 6th October using the new 280mm shallow draft keel. Over the summer we have found that classic and vintage style classes with traditionally shallow keels and DF95 with our new shallow keel can sail/race 70-80% of the lake without issue, Only the known shallow parts at the extreme ends of the lake remain two shallow due to silt or rock.
The next two Sundays will provide a opportunity obtain your new keel and tune up your rigs. We will commence the series on GOMYC or OEM short keels and would recommend all skippers obtaining one from the treasurer for £35. We also recommend at minimum obtaining an, B and C rig asap.
Note: Tony has offered his services to help new and old skippers setup B and C rigs and can also supply high quality 'Warboy' sails/rigs at a competitive price. So send Tony a message as soon as possible. We strongly recommend purchasing the rig kits as soon as possible and in advance of you booking Tony's help.
WE also propose to start a twilight sail/ natter night from the Thursday 19th October. Sail from 14:00, Couple of turns around the cans from 17:30 and meeting in the Lilly pub from 19:00 for a natter about all things model yachting. We hope that the Natter night can become a regular thing every first Thursday of the month until April.
Sea you on the water.

P.S.
I have been asked: Why are we using the std Joysway ballast keel for the shallow draft keels?
Firstly, this I to keep the boats to design weight and minimal cost.
Secondly, the new shallow draft keels mould was taken from an OEM 280mm short keel for the DF95, which is no longer available from Joysway. This means that the profiles of the new keel is optimal to fit your boat without alterations. All keels supplied by the club are as near identical as possible and should provide as close one design racing in the spirit of the original DF95 concept.
Happy sailing!
